Aspecto de la utilización de las paremias en el diario el país : Hacia el desarrollo de ,materiales didácticos para la enseñanza del español de persa

This study aims to discover the most frequent sentential phraseological units (SPUs) in modern Spanish, in order to include them in materials for the teaching of this language to speakers of Persian. A previous selection of 277 SPUs considered to be normal or familiar was carried out on the basis of their frequency of occurrence in 12 published collections of these expressions. Subsequent phases of the study draw on a corpus from the newspaper El País, including all texts from the years 2000-2001. The study offers details of the frequency of occurrence of the selected SPUs in the corpus texts, together with detailed analyses of their most salient textual characteristics. Firstly, details are provided for the internal modification of the selected expressions: addition, reduction, substitution, grammatical modification and combined modification. Further analyses are offered for complex modification, in which the alterations involved require an explanation based on the underlying meaning of the SPU. Secondly, consideration is given to a series of devices which intervene in the expression of SPUs and which reflect the conceptualization of these expressions in the collective psyche of the linguistic community. These include terms which identify SPUs as phraseological units or as mental constructs, together with considerations on the familiarity, the antiquity, the application and the truth of SPUs. Finally, attention is given to the integration of SPUs in discourse, the ways in which an SPU is inserted in the different levels of a text and establishes dependency relationships with other elements appearing in the same context. These relations are examined first at the local level and then at the global level, when the SPU expresses the summarised content of a complete paragraph or a complete text, or when the expression functions as the title of the text.
