To clarify how academic studies were organised at Salamanca University has motivated us to delive into this field. This research paper analyses the way to teach medicine at Salamanca University along the first decades of the 19th Century. For this purpose, a large number of handwritten and printed sources preserved at the University archive have been consulted. The study has been divided into three different parts. On the first section, it has been carried out a detailed analysis of the appearance of academic programmes along these years and the modifications introduced in the education of future doctors, as well as in the role played by the University in the development of some of them. On the second section, it has been undertaken a study of the fundamental structures of teaching within the medicine school, including professorships and their allocation systems, lecturers who occupied these positions, the education content and teaching methods. On the last section, it has been carried out a study of the student sector in order to establish the volume of students compared with other centres of the Salamanca University, their origins and degrees achieved, without forgetting other issues such as the impact that the closure of the centre had due to the War of Independence, academic dissertations, private lessons, validation of studies, examinations and the academic discipline have been also covered within this last section. Finally it is added three appendices where detailed a list of medical students in the first, the medical teachers and their classes in the second, and the medical chairs and their teachers in the third.
