Libro
ISBN: 9788490126004

In the Galician Socialist Party [Partido Socialista Galego (PSG)] converge, on the one hand, the heirs of the pre-war Partido Galeguista [pro-Galician Party], that is, of the Galician cultural avant-garde in its origins, and, on the other hand, those called to be the protagonists in democratic Galicia, whether as socialist activists (starting from the formation of the PSdG-PSOE [Socialist Party of Galicia-Spanish Socialist Workers Party]) or as nationalistic activists, the latter led by Xosé M. Beiras, its secretary general and later head of a new party, then BNG [Galician Nationalist Bloc]. This thesis analyses the formation, historical evolution, discursive practices, strategies and mobilization (in a territory with national identity like Galicia) of the aforementioned conglomerate from Francoism to the passing of the Statute of Autonomy of Galicia. Applying the theory of mobilization and the methodology of discourse analysis to the articles on rights by the marxist/socialist and the pro-Galician/nationalist trends within the PSG, and studying its conditioning by the historical-political and identity contexts in contemporary Galicia, it is possible to appreciate the way in which the linkage, combination, deconstruction, denaturalization and appropriation of party practices and discourses have contributed to build the hegemonic identity of the PSG. The focus on this construction, and the use of rights as a framework or cultural tool of mobilization and legitimation, amounts to a new approach to the study of the Galician Socialist Party.
