Las selihot la-'asmurot de R. Yehudah ha-Leví : traducción y estudio literario
This PhD Dissertation consists on a translation with notes of the twenty-nine poemscorpus of the selihot la 'asmurot by Yehudah ha-Levi, according to the edition of H. Brody & A. M. Habermann (1971) and the extensive quoting apparatus of the D. Yardenedition (1978-1985). It is preceded by a broad introduction that deals with the biographyof the author himself and his language in the context of medieval Hebrew, as well as thepoetic genre of the selihot, its historical evolution, its (para)liturgical uses and itstheological contents. Moreover, the study focuses on the concept of asmurah, nocturnalprayer in Judaims, and the (para)lithurgical use of this genre in Al-Ándalus, ChristianSpain, and the Sephardic communities of the 16th and 17th century Italy. In addition tothe analysis of the intertextual phenomena in Hispanic-Hebrew poetry, the maincontribution of this thesis comes from the philological, stylistic and literaryinterpretation of the selected poems, presented in three thematic unities: (i)existentialism and praise to God, the Creator, (ii) attempt of intimacy with God, and (iii)community and nationalism.
